Jonathan This is lovely old time spiritual folk music, which reminds me a lot of "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" Classic church tunes for modern atheists. This live spiritual folk music is a perfect break for those who have listened to too much doom laden cosmic mayhem and all you wish to experience, for a few minutes, is a deep spiritual whether comforting or rousing. Great stuff, here: spiritual folk music with heart, soul and mind. Check out the spare beauty of Sally Jaye's "When He Returns." Wow. Favorite track: When He Returns.

about

Once upon a time (fall of 2008), I was feeling quite lost, so with the help of Ron and Linda Probst, I ran off to North Carolina for a month, lived in their camper in the mountains, and gathered together a bunch of musicians to play some of my favorite old gospel songs. We put together some songs and performed them one night in Old St. Paul’s church (Newton, NC) built in 1818. Thanks to Brian Wright, Jay Brown, Nate Leath, Ben McPherson, The Sigmon Stringers (ages five to 60 at the time), and a packed house full of NC folks singing along, I had one of the most fun nights playing music I could ever dream up. Special thanks to Mark McManeus and Ron Probst for recording the night, Mike Vizcarra for mixing and mastering, David Rose for the cover photo, and Dusty Bradshaw dropping a whiskey bottle in church during the quietest part of the recording.
